Walmart agrees to gun control task force meeting

BENTONVILLE (KATV) - After originally declining, Walmart agreed Wednesday to take part in a meeting with Vice President Joe Biden's gun violence task force.

Walmart originally said executives could not attend Thursday's meeting because they had to be at monthly sales meetings at their Bentonville headquarters.

The decision was widely scrutinized by gun control advocates with many questioning how the company could be a part of the discussion without listening to what other parties were saying at the White House. In response to that criticism, Walmart said it would attend.

Biden's panel was formed in the wake of the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting. The panel will give recommendations on how to prevent another mass shooting.

"I want to make it clear that we are not going to get caught up in the notion 'unless we can do everything we are going to do nothing,' Biden said Wednesday. "It's critically important we act."

The National Rifle Association and the National Shooting Sports Foundation are expected to meet with the task force Thursday, as well.
