PINE BLUFF (KATV) - Pine Bluff's city council met Monday night for the first time this year.

The board went into executive session to discuss the hiring of Interim Police Chief Jeff Hubanks. No changes were made but three residents spoke out against the decision, one citing race. Mayor Debe Hollingsworth said her decisions are not based on color but on trust.

Also at the meeting, council member Thelma Walker asked to be named to the city's advertising and promotion commission.

City documents show that Walker's son, who owns Aisha's Restaurant, hasn't paid the one cent "hamburger tax" since August 2009. When asked about her son's delinquency, Walker said, "My son is his own man. I didn't know anything about my son's business....I had no ulterior motive. What would I do? Get on there to try to erase the books? That is really outrageous."

The board approved Walker's appointment.
