CONWAY (Log Cabin Democrat) - Faulkner County's chapter of Circle of Friends, a group
raising funds and awareness for Arkansas Children's Hospital, will hold
an inaugural benefit race while also honoring the memories of two local
children.
Organizers of Freezin' for a Reason, a 2k, 5k and 10k
race event, said the idea of the benefit came from the desire to honor
the memories of Charlotte Diane Mulhearn and Stella Rose Mulhearn.
The daughters of Amanda and Travis Mulhearn, of Conway, were patients at Arkansas Children's Hospital. Stella Rose, as she was known, died early in 2012 of
brain cancer. The Mulhearns' infant daughter, Charlotte Diane, died five
years before of a rare heart infection.
Amanda Mulhearn told organizers the months she and her
husband spent at the hospital were the hardest and most desperate of her
life, "but being (at Children's Hospital) made them easier."
All proceeds from the race event will go to Arkansas Children's Hospital, a private, nonprofit healthcare facility for children.
