Joe Smith Sworn in as North Little Rock Mayor

NORTH LITTLE ROCK -- With the new year comes new a mayor for North Little Rock.

Joe Smith was sworn in as mayor of North Little Rock Tuesday morning.

The North Little Rock native said his first goal is to create a communications department.

Smith also hopes to build a partnership with the school district.

"It's going to be a great opportunity, great challenge," Smith told Channel 7. "The people of North Little Rock put their trust in me and I'm honored by that."

Smith previously spent time as the Director of Commerce and Governmental Affairs and Director of Community Relations.

Former mayor Patrick Hays also attended the inauguration ceremony.
