Baxter County man arrested for woman's death

SALESVILLE (KATV) - A Baxter County man was arrested Tuesday after a woman was found the night before covered in blood on his living room floor.

Deputies were called to 139 Broadview Circle around 10:30 p.m. but no one answered. According to a press release, Deputy Brian Davis could see the victim through a window lying on the living room floor. She was unconscious but breathing with severe wounds to her head and neck.

She was taken to Baxter Regional Medical Center where she died a few hours later.

David Craig Smith, who lives at 139 Broadview Circle, was arrested a short time later outside a neighbor's home. At last check, the 53-year-old was being held in the Baxter County Detention Center.

The name of the 45-year old female victim has not been released while deputies contact her family. Her body is being sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab in Little Rock to determine cause of death.
