Hector receives $10K in donations after fire

HECTOR, Ark. (AP) - Officials in Hector say they've received $10,000 in community donations after a former elementary school burned to the ground.

Hector Superintendent Walt Davis says local businesses and churches have chipped in after the Dec. 13 fire. The school building also served as a food pantry and all canned goods were destroyed in the blaze.

Davis tells the Russellville Courier (http://is.gd/YJwLGf ) that the school has completely restocked the food pantry, thanks to the donations.

School administrators say the fire affected a former elementary school building that was being used as a computer lab and for other classroom space, as well as the food bank.

Hector Assistant Fire Chief Jake Jones says the building is a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
