Road conditions deteriorate in west, northern Ark.

MENA, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas highway officials are warning motorists to stay home as freezing rain, sleet and snow fall over western and northern portions of the state.

As sunset came, snow was reported on U.S 71 in western Arkansas and U.S. 65 from Conway to Missouri. Snow and ice covered roads Slush covered highways in the northwestern half of the state.

The National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for parts of northeastern Arkansas, with up to 10 inches of snow expected, along with high winds.

The snow is part of a strong storm system that is also brining severe weather to the Gulf Coast.
