Blytheville gun buyback program called a success

BLYTHEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Officials in Blytheville are hopeful that a recent gun buyback program will reduce crime in the area.

The event was held Saturday and sponsored by the Cleaner Safer Blytheville initiative, the Blytheville Ministerial Alliance and local businesses.

Jonesboro television station KAIT reports (http://is.gd/7D4HqL ) that people were able to drop off guns and receive up to $75 and a ham for the holidays.

Blytheville Police Chief Ross Thompson says the program is amnesty-based - meaning no questions were asked and no one faced police enforcement action by dropping off guns.
