Arkansas state parks to host hikes on Jan. 1

TEXARKANA, Ark. (AP) - State parks in southwest Arkansas are expected host hikes on Jan. 1 to encourage people to get outdoors.

The Texarkana Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/12yQCEG ) First Day Hikes are planned for the Millwood and Crater of Diamonds state parks.

Other southwest Arkansas state parks that have scheduled First Day Hikes include Daisy State Park, Cossatot State Park, Logoly State Park, DeGray Lake State Park and Queen Wilhemina State Park.

Arkansas Parks Director Greg Butts tells the Texarkana Gazette that First Day Hikes are a good way to cure cabin fever and burn off extra holiday calories.
