Police investigating student-teacher sexual relationship

SHERIDAN -

The Sheridan Police Department confirmed Wednesday it is investigating accusations of a teacher-student sexual relationship at the city's high school.

Sheridan Police Chief Bob Adams tells KATV.com the investigation is in the preliminary stages right now, but that the department has been looking over things for about a week.

According to Adams, the teacher has been placed on paid administrative leave by the school district.

Sheridan Superintendent Brenda Haynes denied comments saying "I cannot make any comments on a personnel matter that is pending investigation."

Adams said a male student was telling other classmates that he was having a sexual relationship with a female teacher.

"Right now we are in the very early stages of this investigation. We've subpoenaed cell phone records and are waiting to get those back before taking the next step," Chief Adams said.

He went on to say the teacher has denied any involvement with this student or any others.
