BARTON (KATV) -

Arkansas Game and Fish wildlife officers shot and killed a man after he allegedly hit a trooper with his truck two times.

According to Arkansas State Police, around 10:30 Friday evening the trooper and wildlife officers were attempting to stop a vehicle on Phillips County Road 350 west of Barton.

The driver, 50-year-old Darryl Vance Parker, was being stopped on suspicion of hunting at night.

Police say Parker fled into a wheat field where his struck slowed down due to thick mud.

Trooper Jason Martin attempted to approach the vehicle on foot, but police say Parker hit him with his truck and knocked him to the ground.

When the trooper tried to approach the vehicle a second time, police say Parker struck him with the truck again.

Wildlife officers fired their weapons at the cab of the truck striking Parker.

Parker was pronounced dead at the scene.

State police are investigating the incident and will submit their findings to prosecuting attorneys for review.

Trooper Martin is recovering from non-life threatening injuries at Memphis hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
