Deliberations resume in Ark. officer's trial

Posted:

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - A federal jury has resumed deliberations in the case of a former police officer charged in a drug and corruption investigation in east Arkansas.

Jurors met again Friday to consider the case of former Helena-West Helena police officer Marlene Kalb. She faces money laundering, attempted extortion and drug-related charges.

Deliberations began Thursday afternoon but jurors left without reaching a verdict.

Kalb has pleaded not guilty to all charges. She testified in her own defense Wednesday and denied the allegations against her.

She was indicted last year after an investigation called "Operation Delta Blues" focused on alleged corruption and drug trafficking in eastern Arkansas. Four other former law enforcement officers have pleaded guilty to various charges.
