Our House will soon have a new children's center. Thursday the shelter for working homeless launched a capital campaign. So far they have raised 70 percent of the funds for the $3.8 million facility.

The entire project is privately supported. Executive director Georgia Mjartan says the space is needed because their programs for children have proven successful.

"We track report cards," Mjartan said. "These kids get better. They come to us and they're behind and then they get caught up. And they know they can be successful. They realize their potential."

Mjartan says another reason for the 18,500 square-foot facility is space. They've see an increase in the number of homeless children.

"Our response is to build a center where these kids can come. A place where they can be safe when they're out of school," Mjartan said. She says there are also early childhood programs. "We're building this center for the homeless children of Arkansas."

Our House announced a big donation from the Mabee Foundation based out of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The donation is conditional; Our House has to raise the remaining $1.1 million by April 2013.
