Russellville farmer turns up turnip weighing 13lbs

Posted: Updated:

POPE COUNTY (KATV) - A farmer in the River Valley has grown a 13 pound turnip on his farm near Russellville.

Bob Taylor, co-owner of Taylor's Nursery in Russellville, said in a phone interview that he planted some turnips like usual and he just got rain at the right time so this one kept growing and growing.

Taylor puts out turnips every year then normally gives them away at his nursery. He insists he grows all of them organically and he just lucked out this season between the rain and good soil.

While turnips do not normally get this big, Taylor said it's not all that uncommon to have a big one turn out.

He's not sure yet what he will do with it, but he's considering entering it into a contest.
