Downdraft, not tornado, caused Ark. storm damage

VIOLA (AP) - The National Weather Service says a downdraft from a thunderstorm caused damage to buildings in Viola.

A weather service team surveyed the damage near Viola on Monday, a day after a storm line swept through the state. A number of tornado warnings were issued Sunday but there were no indications of tornadoes on the ground in Arkansas.

Damage was reported to a duplex, three barns and four outbuildings.

The most significant damage occurred at the duplex, where the roof was torn off. One person suffered a minor injury and three families were displaced. Officials say the families are staying with relatives.
