Salvation Army holds "fill the truck" toy drive for kids in need

Posted: Updated:

Thousands of people around the country helped out so that kids in need wouldn't go without their favorite toy this Christmas it was all part of the Salvation Army's annual Fill the Truck drive.

More than 25,000 volunteers across the country stood outside Wal-Mart stores and collected toys that will go to hundreds of children whose parents may not be able to afford to buy them one for the Christmas.

Donors were given a list of the most popular toys among kids today to make picking one easier. One local drive says they received over 200 toys today.

what we're doing is just allowing people to know what our needs are and let them know that we do need additional toys to help.

"What we're doing is just allowing people to know what our needs are and let them know that we do need additional toys to help," said Jonathan McBride, of the Salvation of Hot Springs.

Last year the salvation army raised more than $100,000 locally in donations and nearly $150 million nationally.
