Broken Arrow Casino May Get a Second Chance To Open

Posted: Updated:

Broken Arrow residents now face the possibility of a casino, resurrecting in their community. A federal order shut down efforts to build the Red Clay casino earlier this year.

But now we have learned the Muscogee Creek Nation could step as a partner in resurrecting the idea.

The Kialegee tribe claimed jurisdiction over the land--but in the end, the Muscogee Creek tribe was found to have it.

Now, the Kialegee tribe is still in the game, according to Sam Alexander, of the Creen National Council. The developers would finish the building---and the Creek Nation would not make an investment, but would still take in 70-percent of the revenues. The developers, Kialegee tribe--and land owners would take the remaining.

Broken arrow as a city, spoke out against the first casino. A second attempt is also getting negative feedback.

"Our council did come out and say they were not in favor of the casino  because it was so close to schools and neighborhoods and churches," said Stephanie Higgins, a Broken Arrow spokesperson.

Local business owner, Mac McDaris says he is against it as well, "I have been here 68 years and I have seen lots of changes but that's not one I'd like to see."

The next step is for the Creek nation to look into the proposal, with a committee review on Tuesday. If it survives, the Creek National Council will vote on the issue December 15th.
