Shopping cops buy gifts for NLR children

NORTH LITTLE ROCK -

There was an adventure, if you will, and special treat for dozens of North Little Rock children Wednesday.

They were buying Christmas gifts with Police as part of the seventh annual "Shop With a Cop." Businesses and individuals raised more than $30,000 for 100 children, who would not otherwise be able to, have gifts under their tree.

Patrol officer Tommy Norman said Wednesday was an overwhelming day – in a good way. He said he and his fellow officers love being able to put smiles on little faces. And they couldn't do it without the citizens of North Little Rock.

"We know we're doing something right at the North Little Rock Police Department when the members of this community donate this much money," Norman said. "It is a great day."

When "Shop with a Cop" began, police were able to buy for eight children. That number, as mentioned, is now at 100. The program was established to build trust and respect between police and the community.
