(KATV) Amateur radio fans, sometimes called HAM radio operators joined Saturday to celebrate their work with the National Weather Service.

Skywarn recognition day honors the volunteers who assist the National Weather Service. The amateur radio operators go out and report any weather conditions that may be serious or severe.

David Norris says, "We have given criteria we are required to report and we do this as a free service to the National Weather Service."
