Ark. AG to ask court to reconsider schools ruling

Posted:

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Attorney General Dustin McDaniel says he'll ask the state Supreme Court to reconsider its decision that school districts that collect more in property tax revenues than state-mandated school funding levels can keep the money.

McDaniel said Friday that he'll file a petition for rehearing with the court over its decision that the state can't redistribute the excess revenues from districts where higher property tax collections pushed the districts above total school funding levels set by state law.

McDaniel said he's concerned by Thursday's ruling, which state education officials say threatens years of school reforms aimed to at providing an equitable education to the state's 468,000 public school students.

McDaniel said he doesn't know when he'll file the petition, which is due Dec. 17.
