You can help eliminate child hunger in Arkansas

(KATV) Little Rock - Childhood hunger in Arkansas is starting to decrease, but those leading the effort say we're nowhere close to being done.

After school program providers and administrators of child nutrition programs around the state met Thursday, November 29 to discuss ways to improve.

Two years ago we were ranked first for hungry kids. Today we're ninth.

The Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance has partnered with the Food Research and Action Center to expand after school meals for kids. Harriett Phillips with the Governor's Office says it's thanks to making the problem a priority. "Feeding kids when they are in school, when they're out of school. Just making everything available we possibly can."

There's an easy way for you to help through the Channel Seven Spirit of Giving Food Drive. Starting Monday and running through December 14th you can drop off non perishable food items at any U.S. Bank.
