SPRINGDALE (AP) - The Northwest Arkansas Naturals of the Texas League have been named the winner of a Baseball America award that honors excellent operations and promotions.
The Bob Freitas Award is named after a longtime minor league baseball official who died in 1989. Criteria include community involvement, long-term business success and consistent excellence in a team's operation.
The Naturals announced Tuesday that it had won the award for AA minor league teams. The citation noted the team overcame bad weather and having a number of prospects promoted to higher leagues.
Baseball America magazine will present the award during baseball's annual winter meetings.
Next year, the Naturals will host the Texas League All-Star Game on June 25. The team is affiliated with the Kansas City Royals of the American League.
