CONWAY COUNTY (KATV, Petit Jean Country Headlight) - A church bus driving on Highway 9 towards Oppelo ran off the road into a bean field near Morrilton and got stuck, leaving around a dozen adults injured.

Arkansas State Police tell Channel 7 News two people were air lifted to area hospitals; another 5-8 were taken by ambulance. Troopers could not confirm the severity of the injuries but based on information currently available, everyone is expected to survive.

They say the driver felt dizzy and started looking for a place to pull over then apparently blacked out because he told troopers that's the last thing he remembered. No word if the dizzy spell is connected to any kind of pre-existing medical condition.

Our content partners at the Petit Jean Country Headlight report the bus belongs to Lonoke Missionary Baptist Church north of Morrilton in Conway County. They say this was a group of senior citizen ladies called the Golden Girls who were on their way to sing at a nursing home as they do every Tuesday.

The bus reportedly traveled through a ditch with a steep embankment then a large pasture, going through a couple of fences along the way. The main door for the 25-passenger bus was damaged in the process so the fire department had to cut it away to get people out. They also pulled some out the rear door.

At last check, a wrecker was pulling up to the scene to tow the bus.
