FORREST CITY (Times-Herald) - Officers with Arkansas State Police Troop D made more than 400
arrests during the four-day Thanksgiving holiday period, including more
than 20 people being charged with DWI.
According to information from Troop D, headquartered in Forrest City,
troopers made 412 arrests during the holiday period that started
Wednesday evening and ended at midnight Sunday.
The arrests include 21 DWI arrests, which was the same total during
the Thanksgiving holiday period last year. There were 182 speeding
arrests, 32 safety belt citations and six tickets issued for child
restraint violations. Troopers also made three other hazardous arrests,
129 non-hazardous arrests and 39 criminal arrests. There were also 740
warnings given to motorists, giving troopers a total of 1,177 contacts
with motorists.
During the 2011 holiday period, there were 414 total arrests made
which included 137 speeding citations, 21 DWI arrests, 57 seat belt
citations, 11 child restraint citations, 29 other hazardous arrests, 99
non-hazardous arrests and 60 criminal arrests.
"I'd say the guys had a good weekend. We didn't have any fatal
accidents, and they did a good job of taking impaired drivers off of the
road. I'd call it a good weekend for us," said Capt. Jackie Clark,
Commander of Troop D.
According to Clark, there were 25 accidents investigated and one alcohol-related accident but no fatalities.
Troop D includes St. Francis, Crittenden, Cross, Lee, Monroe, Phillips, Prairie and Woodruff counties.
