LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - A suspect was arrested Monday for allegedly stealing lottery tickets.

A cashier at the Mapco at 12th Street and Fair Park Boulevard alerted police that morning when Cedric Qualls tried to cash in some stolen tickets. Earlier, she had learned from the lottery commission that the tickets were stolen.

The 21-year-old was locked inside the store until police could arrive. Officers took him into custody and handcuffed him.  An officer tried to walk him to the patrol car but, according to a police report, Qualls broke away and ran off.

Evidence left at the convenience store led officers to a room at the LaQuinta Inn on Fair Park. Officers found two other people in the room with the suspect as well as a number of lottery tickets.

All three were taken into police custody but the other two men were later released. Qualls was charged with 114 counts of theft by receiving and another 114 counts of lottery fraud as well as one count of third degree escape.

At last check, Little Rock detectives were still investigating where the lottery tickets were stolen from and exactly how many the suspect had.
