Christmas/Holiday Parades Return

Posted: Updated:

It's that time of year again, time to decide which parade to attend.

"We're celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ," said Mark Croucher, organizer of the Tulsa Christmas Parade, heavy emphasis on the word Christmas.

"Everybody worries about being politically correct, offending someone, no, I'm not afraid of offending anybody," he said.

"I didn't know for sure they were having one," said Larry Fox of the Tulsa Holiday Parade of Lights.

"This is for everybody," he said.

For decades the holiday parade was called the Christmas parade, but changed 3 years ago, says Fox, as kind of an evolution.

"We have the Tulsa Jewish community, represented, they were never in this parade when it was called a Christmas parade, so it brings an element of the community that was never in before," he said.

For Croucher, the response to last year's Christmas parade still brings up emotion.

"People drove down into the ditch, knowing their cars were going to get stuck, they'd have to be towed out, it was important enough to them to come to the parade and do that, and all we are are the humble servants right there to provide," he said.

As for the controversy surrounding the topic?

"There was never a controversy from our perspective," said Fox.

"We don't look for any controversy, we look to have a parade," said Croucher.

Both parades start at 6pm on December 8th.
