Forget Thursday, Small Businesses Gear Up for Saturday

Many shoppers will finish Thanksgiving lunch and run to stores like Wal-mart and K-mart but not Learning Express Toys in Pleasant Ridge. Owner Joy Figarsky will be too busy to open her doors.

"I'm going to actually be cooking a turkey and stuffing for my three children," Figarsky said of her plans.

However, keeping the register closed is a disadvantage.

"It certainly makes it hard for small businesses to compete with that when people are lining up, leaving the table of turkey and rushing off to go to a store and wait in line as soon as they're done eating."

While opening her doors Thursday is not in the plans, Figarsky says she is hoping to attract possibly shoppers with her own door buster sales on Small Business Saturday.

"We hope people will remember that as they're standing in line somewhere Thursday that there are many many small businesses in Arkansas that really need everybody's support for our economy to thrive."
