ST. FRANCIS COUNTY (Times-Herald) - An 18-month-old child is in stable condition at Le Bonheur Children's
Hospital in Memphis after being burned during a fire Tuesday at a home
west of Caldwell.
According to a report from the St. Francis County Sheriff's
Department, emergency personnel were called to the home of Katie
Newborn, at 4142 Hwy. 261, about 2:30 p.m. The report shows the baby
suffered burns and was airlifted from the scene to Le Bonheur.
"We received a call at around 2:20. We were told there was a baby
inside the house and it was fully engulfed. When the first firefighter
arrived on the scene, Deputy (Kareem) Watson had the baby. The
firefighter is also a paramedic so he took the baby and started working
on it until the EMTs arrived on the scene," said Caldwell Fire Chief
Shane Dallas.
Dallas said he was unsure if deputies or family members rescued the baby.
Firefighters from Caldwell, Colt and Palestine were called to the
home to extinguish the fire. Dallas said fire department officials have
not yet determined a cause for the blaze.
