T-Town Rundown: What's Happening Around the Tulsa Area Today

Posted: Updated:

From a gingerbread house competition to a Claremore man inventing a new heater that's cool to the touch, here are just some of the things going on in the area Wednesday.

As always, follow KTUL.com for full-length coverage on larger stories occurring in the area, state and nation. The following events are just some of those happening Thursday with updates posted throughout the morning as we send out crews and reporters to stories we're working on for our evening newscasts.

Claremore: Resident Joe Sumpter has newly patented a heater without any exposed heating elements or fire. With its pyramid shape, it uses the same technology found in convection ovens. Sumpter told KTUL.com that the air coming off it is hot, but the machine itself is cool to the touch.

City of Tulsa: An announcement was made regarding office closures on Thursday and Friday. Closures may effect trash pick up for some residents. Check back on KTUL.com later for more information.

Downtown: Fleet Feet Sports is bringing back their Turkey Trot this Friday. Those wanting to shed their Thanksgiving meal calories can participate in the 5K or one-mile fun run. The event benefits the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless and registration is open online or at the Fleet Feet Store.

Travel: With Thanksgiving tomorrow, many are planning on packing into their vehicles and heading home or to visit family. But the Oklahoma Department of Transportation is also reminding drivers that certain roads may affect their travel. Check back on KTUL.com as we post more information on this.

Christmas Lights: Rhema Park Bridge will be turning on its Christmas lights Wednesday. More than 60,000 lights will be visible from 5:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. and admission is free to the public.
