STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Arkansas Razorbacks fell to the Mississippi State Bulldogs 45-14 on Saturday in front of 54,838 fans at Davis Wade Stadium.
Tyler Wilson led the Arkansas offense, as he went 23 for 29 with 225 yards and two touchdowns. He moved into fourth place on the UA single-season completions list, passing Casey Dick's total of 205 in 2008. Dennis Johnson led the Razorbacks on the ground, rushing for 88 yards on 15 attempts. He also caught a touchdown in the Razorback loss. Cobi Hamilton again led the Razorbacks in receptions with seven for 88 yards and a touchdown. Hamilton moved into a tie for 10th on the SEC's single-season receptions list. With seven today, Hamilton now has 80 this season, extending his school record.
Defensively, the Razorbacks were paced by two freshmen, Rohan Gaines and Otha Peters. They contributed nine and eight tackles respectively. Chris Smith had a standout game on the defensive line, compiling 1.5 sacks.
Mississippi State jumped on the board first with a 15-play, 75-yard touchdown drive. The Bulldogs scored on a 13-yard pass from Tyler Russell to LaDarius Perkins.
Arkansas would answer with a touchdown drive of its own as Hamilton caught his fifth touchdown pass of the year, a 30-yarder from Wilson. The 11-play drive featured three Hamilton catches for 45 yards.
The following Bulldog possession saw Smith make a tackle for loss on an option play and then end the drive with a two-yard sack.
Wilson followed the defensive stop and threw his second touchdown of the day, a 7-yard pass to Johnson making the score 14-7 Arkansas on the Razorbacks' second drive of the game. This was the second touchdown drive of the day that featured 10 or more plays for the Razorbacks. Wilson finished the half with impressive numbers, going 14-for-15 with two touchdowns.
A muffed punt led to a 39-yard field goal for Mississippi State in the second quarter. The Bulldogs followed the field goal with a five-play 78-yard touchdown drive to make the score 17-14, MSU at the half.
The Bulldogs struck first in the second half, scoring on a four-yard touchdown run from Dak Prescott.
Tyler Russell then took advantage of an Arkansas fumble when he completed a 24-yard touchdown pass to LaDarius Perkins, making the score 31-14 Bulldogs.
With 14:50 left in the game Russell completed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Chad Bumphis. A 60-yard touchdown run by MSU's Nick Griffin with 12:22 to go made the score 45-14, which would be the eventual final score.
The Razorbacks return home for the final time next week, hosting LSU. The game will kick off at 1:30 p.m. on CBS.
