LSU administrator named new CEO of UAMS med center

LITTLE ROCK (AP) - An administrator from Louisiana State University has been named the new chief executive officer for UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock.

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences announced Thursday that Dr. Roxane Townsend will serve as CEO and vice chancellor for clinical programs.

Townsend comes to Arkansas from LSU, where she worked with the system's 10 hospitals and their clinics in the development of strategies and system-wide policies.

The UAMS Medical Center offers both inpatient and outpatient services and includes a teaching hospital with 434 beds.

UAMS says Townsend will begin work Feb. 1. She succeeds Richard Pierson, who is retiring at the end of December after more than 30 years in UAMS.
