Pickleball Catching On With 55 & Older Crowd

Posted: Updated:

LIving great means trying out a new exercise.. even if its got a weird name!

We all know working-out is a necessary evil. And day to day it can get pretty boring if you don't mix-up your routine.

So why not try Pickleball?

It's pretty popular at school gymnasiums. And now it's catching on with the 55 and older crowd.

There's a beginner's class that happens every Wednesday morning at the Southminster Presbyterian Church Senior Center.

It's a combination of badminton, tennis and ping pong.

The teacher, Marilyn Chavoudy says, it's a great way to socialize, stay limber and stay young!

"Almost anyone can play it. It's not a difficult game. The ball bounces slow. So you don't have to be real fast most of the time. And if you play with people that are about your same level, it's a fun game."

To join the Senior Center it costs just $25 a year.

By the way, in case you're wondering where Pickleball got its name.. the family that created the game had a dog named Pickle that loved to chase balls.
