Bryant teen killed, hit by train

BRYANT (KATV) - At about 2:45 Monday, Bryant Police received a call from the Union Pacific Railroad that a train headed eastbound on the north tracks just hit a pedestrian.

Police and rescue responded to the area between Reynolds Road and S. Cherry St. and began a search of the railroad tracks. The victim was found around one-half mile west of Reynolds Road.

According to the train engineer, the victim was crouched in the bushes next to the track. As the train approached, he said the male subject stepped onto the tracks facing the train. The engineer said they applied their emergency brakes immediately. The victim was a 17 year old boy.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Saline County Coroner.

The family has been notified but the victim's name will not be released because he is a minor.

According to police, the victim and his family live nearby and he went to school in the Bryant district.
