Recalls: November 8th

The Consumer Product Safety Commission had a busy day Thursday, issuing four new recalls.

Only three of them are likely to affect Arkansans.

Our first two recalls deal with heat…the other, an item often used by new mothers.

LG Electronics is recalling 161,000 electric ranges because burners can fair to turn off after being switched off.

Also, the temperature setting can increase unexpectedly during use. Both problems create a danger for users or anyone near by.

The recalled ranges were sold at Best Buy, Home Depot, Sears and other major appliance retailers from January of 2006 to June of 2010.

Each cost between $800 and $2,000 dollars depending on the model.

If you have one of these ranges…stop using it and contact LG for a free in-home repair.

Our second recall involves fireplaces and inserts recalled by Monessen Hearth Systems.

About 15,000 gas fireplaces and inserts have a control component that can prevent the units from lighting even though gas continues to flow. This creates a fire hazard.

Thankfully no incidents or injuries have been reported. Hearth dealers sold these units over the past year and the prices ranged greatly depending on the model purchased. Free repairs are available.

Finally 33,000 glider rockers sold at Burlington and other mass retailers have weak bases that can crack or break.

These Avalon rockers were sold for the past three years for about $170.00 each.
