Doctors debate marijuana as medicine

Posted: Updated:

DENVER, Colo. (KATV) - Next week Arkansas voters will be asked if it should be legal for citizens to treat medical conditions with marijuana.

17 other states have already said yes.

Colorado was one of the first.

KATV went to Colorado last week and Friday on Nightside we will share with you the differing views of two doctors with regards to using marijuana as medicine.

One is Dr. Alan Shackelford of Aurora Colorado.  He has written marijuana recommendations for hundreds of his patients.

"I think the bill that is under consideration by the voters in Arkansas is an excellent bill," says Dr. Shackelford.  "It is well formulated. And people in Arkansas will be able to benefit from this."

Dr. Ken Finn of Colorado Springs offers a differing opinion.

"Unfortunately our medical community is uninformed on the harmful effects of marijuana…especially in our youth and in our adolescents," says Dr. Finn.

You will hear more from these doctors on Nightside. You will also hear from a young man who uses marijuana daily to treat multiple sclerosis.
