Would passage of Act 5 allow marijuana vending machines?

Posted: Updated:

While Arkansans consider whether they'll vote to legalize medical marijuana, a conservative family group is raising a number of questions about the cost and ramifications of Act 5 if passed November 6th.

The Family Council Action Committee says it may cost as much as $6 million dollars a year to fund the programs implementation and dispensaries, and it's raising a question no one else is contemplating; would the act allow marijuana vending machines?  Well, two senators are also curious about that question.  State Senators Jeremy Hutchinson and Johnny Key are asking for an attorney general's opinion on whether or not the machines would be allowed if the act passes.

"Marijuana is dispensed through vending machines in California", said Family Council's President Jerry Cox.  "They're basically just high tech snack machines that sell marijuana and marijuana-infused food instead of potato chips".

By the way, there is no mention of the vending machines in the proposed ballot issue.

On the other side of the issue, Chris Kell with Arkansans for Compassionate Care calls the whole thing "absurd, ridiculous and completely false and misleading".  "it's another typical scare tactic that Mr. Cox is using to try to scare the voters out of voting for something that will help thousands of people".
