University of Central Arkansas punter Kevin Buford was named the Southland Conference Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday for his efforts against Lamar University on Saturday.
Buford, a senior from Greenville, Miss., punted four times for a career-high 47.5-yard average in UCA's 24-14 victory over Lamar at First Security Field at Estes Stadium.
Buford had punts of 42, 51, 49 and 48 yards, pinning the Cardinals on their own 5 with one first-quarter punt. Buford is fifth in the SLC in punting with a 40.4-yard average.
The player of the week honor was UCA's ninth this season, the most in the conference through eight weeks of play.
The 14th-ranked Bears (6-2, 4-1) take on first-place Southeastern Louisiana (3-4, 3-0) at 7 p.m. Saturday in a battle for the league's top spot at Strawberry Stadium in Hammond, La.
