LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Officials say the Arkansas State Hospital is now in "substantial compliance" with conditions to participate in the Medicare program.

The Arkansas Department of Human Services said the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services notified the Arkansas State Hospital on Friday that it has successfully met the terms of its systems improvement agreement.

Department of Human Services Deputy Director Janie Huddleston says she feels they've made significant progress since last year. But, she said they still have to improve other areas. Surveyors who visited the facility noted problems with patient treatment plans and documentation.

The State Hospital's CEO says they'll submit a plan within 10 days to fix those issues.

DHS signed the agreement last year. It promised to improve the Arkansas State Hospital, which treats people with mental illnesses.
