WASHINGTON (CNN) - A controversial case made its way to the Supreme Court Wednesday.
Justices heard oral
arguments in a lawsuit filed by
a young white woman who was denied admittance into the University of Texas in
2008.
Abigail Fisher says some minority classmates who had lower grades
than her and who were involved in fewer extracurricular activities than her were
admitted to the school. She claims she was rejected based on the color of
her skin.
The University of Texas at Austin says it does consider race as
one of many factors in some of its admissions decisions in an effort to create a
diverse campus.
Justices aren't expected to issue their ruling
in the case until at least early 2013.
