HOUSTON, Texas (KATV) - Former Pulaski County Special School District Superintendent Dr. Charles Hopson has died from an illness.

PCSSD Spokesperson Deb Roush confirmed the news to KATV Tuesday evening, citing Dr. Hopson's wife.

You may remember Dr. Hopson served as superintendent of the district until June 2011 when the state dissolved PCSSD's board and effectively fired him. Dr. Hopson later filed a federal lawsuit against the state for breech of contract. He was going to a jury trial in November.

Since leaving PCSSD, he had been working as the school improvement officer for high schools in the Houston Independent School District in Texas.

Hopson was 54 years old.
