Adult patient getting transferred back to AR Children's Hospital

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - The prayers of a Cabot family have been answered. 25-year-old Codi Jackson will be transferred back to Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Codi had been treated at Children's Hospital for his numerous disabilities since he was one week old, when spinal meningitis stopped his heart.

When Codi turned 21 he could no longer be treated at Children's and was sent to UAMS.

He's now 25 but still the size of a 10-year-old and has the mental capacity of a 4-year-old.

That's why his parents, who have already lost two other sons, wanted him to continue to be treated at Children's but Children's had repeatedly denied him.

Matt and Mary Jackson say the medical staff at UAMS have been doing their best but they just weren't equipped to handle Codi's needs.

"It's not just Codi. It's several, hundreds of people that are out there that are adults but they're still a child, mentally and physically. And they're denied these special services because of that number on their age," said Mary Jackson.

"Heart, mind, soul, body... my Codi is a child. Always will be. I just want to spend the last years of his life knowing that I gave him everything he deserves," said Matt Jackson.

The move to Children's should happen Tuesday. Codi is still in ICU but his parents say he is doing okay and are so thankful for all the support they've received.
