LITTLE ROCK (AP) -
Lawyers for the family of a 67-year-old Arkansas man who was shot and
killed by an off-duty Little Rock police officer are asking the Justice
Department for an investigation into the man's death.
Attorney Michael Laux sent a
letter to Attorney General Eric Holder on Monday asking for a criminal
investigation into the 2010 shooting death of Eugene Ellison.
1 of Ellison's sons is a sergeant in the Little Rock police department. His other son is a former Little Rock police officer.
They filed a federal
lawsuit last year against the department, police chief and the two
officers who entered Ellison's apartment in 2010 before the fatal
shooting.
Police spokesperson Sgt.
Cassandra Davis declined to comment Monday. A Justice Department
spokesman didn't immediately return a phone message seeking comment.
