Walmart, American Express launch pre-paid card - KATV - Breaking News, Weather and Razorback Sports

(CNN) - Walmart and American Express are teaming up to offer a new prepaid money card.

The card is called Bluebird. The companies say it will offer customers an alternative to checking accounts and debit cards. It will also allow users to avoid growing bank and ATM fees.

Customers can deposit funds on Bluebird in a number of ways, including direct deposit. The card also allows users to send money to an account through a smartphone app.

Walmart actually rolled out Bulebird last spring at select store locations but next week, it hits thousands of Walmart stores and online.
