Explosions will be heard near Arsenal this weekend

Posted: Updated:

If you live near the Pine Bluff Arsenal, you may hear some loud explosions this weekend – But not to worry, according to the Chemical Agent Disposal Facility.

This weekend crews will use explosives to demolish the no longer needed Pollution Abatement System.  The PAS will be felled, marking the successful completion of closure for the facility.

In November 2010 the facility completed the final disposal of the all chemicals stored there.  Since that time the facility has been decontaminated and disposal equipment has been dismantled.

In March of 2005 the facility began disposing of left chemical weapons, made up mainly of nerve and mustard gas canisters.
