Stranded hikers rescued in Devil's Den park

VAN BUREN, Ark. (AP) - Emergency crews have rescued two people who got lost while hiking in western Arkansas.

Crawford County Emergency Manager Dennis Gilstrap says search teams found the hikers Tuesday night near Butterfield Trail in Devil's Den State Park.

Gilstrap tells Fort Smith television station KHBS (http://is.gd/cdaa3t ) that the hikers called 911 on Tuesday, saying they were lost in the Fall Creek area of the park. Gilstrap says search teams were able to ping the hikers' cell phones to obtain their location.

He says they also stayed in contact with them through phone conversations and text messages.

The hikers were rescued at about 9 p.m. They were not injured.

Park officials say people should register if they're hiking on a park trail or let friends and family know when to expect them home.
