NEW YORK CITY (CNN) - Monday marked five years since the Dow Jones Industrial Average reached its
all-time peak.
On October 1st, 2007, the Dow climbed to a close of 14,087.55 but it was mostly downhill from there. One year to the day later, the Dow began a ten-day crash that evaporated nearly half of its value from a year earlier.
The Blue Chips bottomed out the at just 8,400 points. Stocks plunged as the housing bubble burst and the mortgage crisis doomed several banking giants.
