LITTLE ROCK (AP) - Arkansas football coach John L. Smith says he believes his Razorbacks can reach a bowl game despite a 1-3 start and most of their Southeastern Conference schedule still ahead.
Speaking to reporters Monday in Little Rock, the interim coach said Arkansas needs to regain its confidence and consistency - and can do that with a victory.
Since beating Jacksonville State, Arkansas has lost to Louisiana-Monroe, Alabama and No. 23 Rutgers. Some had expected Arkansas to challenge for SEC or national championships, but now the Razorbacks must win 5 of its final eight games to become bowl-eligible.
Arkansas' next five opponents are unranked: Texas A&M, Auburn, Kentucky, Ole Miss and Tulsa. The Razorbacks close at No. 6 South Carolina, at No. 21 Mississippi State and at home with No. 3 LSU.
