Sully Says: Allen is ready

Posted: Updated:

We are less than 24 hours away from the Hogs meeting with the top ranked Crimson Tide and there's still no official word on Tyler Wilson's status.  John L. Smith says it will be a game time decision.

Most believe the odds of Tyler playing sit somewhere between slim and none.  If Tyler can't go, another former Landers Award winner, Brandon Allen, will make his first college start. How many quarterbacks have made their first start against the number one team in the land ?

On the surface, it looks like a terrible matchup for the Hogs.  A defense that's allowed 14 points in two games going up against a quarterback who went 6 for 20 against ULM.  Brandon will be the first to admit that he had issues against Monroe, but it was clear to anyone who watched , that the redshirt freshman was on his own for one half.  He didn't get much help.

Bobby Petrino knows what it takes to be a good quarterback on the major college level. Just look at Louisville and Arkansas.  There were no Petrino misses at QB .  From what I hear, Coach Petrino was convinced that Brandon Allen was going to be his next great Razorback quarterback. He has all the tools.

Petrino's description of Allen as a freshman "He's got a really quick release. He's got good velocity. He's shown to be very accurate".  All attributes that will serve him well Today against a Bama defense that will be out to rattle the former purple dog from the opening snap.

It's Tyler's team , but this week, it's been Brandon's offense to run.  He has spent all week running with the first team and prepping for Alabama.  He's not Tyler, but don't expect Paul Petrino to simplify the game plan because they have a first-time starter. This Bama defense is too good, and this game is too big to play it safe.

A special Petrino gameplan + some hungry playmakers + Tyler or Brandon could = some big offensive moments Saturday.
