LRPD officer arrested for manslaughter

Posted: Updated:

LITTLE ROCK (KATV) - A police officer was arrested on a manslaughter charge Friday afternoon.

The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office website showed Ofc. Joshua Hastings was booked just after 2:30. His bond was set at $15,000.

A press release from LRPD referenced the August 12 shooting at Shadow Lake Apartments in west Little Rock when Hastings killed a teen suspect.

Hastings later told investigators he encountered three individuals he believed to be breaking into cars and leaving the area in a stolen vehicle. He said they drove the car directly towards him even after he identified himself.

He shot at the suspects. The 15-year-old driver, Bobby Moore, died at the scene.

Two separate investigations were launched into this case - one by Internal Affairs, the other by the Major Crimes Division. Chief of Police Stuart Thomas said in a written statement he did not believe the evidence in the case supported Hastings' story.

Prosecuting Attorney Larry Jegley's office agreed and filed charges of manslaughter against Ofc. Hastings.

Hastings is still employed by LRPD but has been relieved of duty while the investigation and trial continue.

We'll have more on this story as it develops.
