Pine Bluff Mayoral Candidates Continue Campaigns Despite Lawsuit

Posted: Updated:

Located just a block down Main Street from the Jefferson County Circuit Courthouse is the campaign headquarters of Clarence Davis. Even now, his campaign is hard at work talking to voters and placing yard signs in preparation for the election on November 6th.

Davis has invested about $15,000 so far in his campaign along with countless man-hours

"The money and the time that's all part of being a candidate. We hope we have this election so we can do what is right for the people of the city," said Davis.

Incumbent Mayor Carl Redus filed a lawsuit Wednesday that would postpone the election until 2014. Some have accused him of planning the delay, so he could qualify for retirement benefits with the extra two years. His lawyer, Gene McKinnis, says that's ridiculous.

"It's an uninformed opinion. It's ludicrous to even assert that," said McKinnis.

Davis says he doesn't know what is motivating Redus's lawsuit, only what motivates him to run against him.

"I don't know what he's really wanting to do, but I do know what the people want him to do and that's have this election and if the people vote him out, leave," said Davis.
